Nature notes from the Rustical Farm Walk in Hesketh Bank

9th March 2026
A single Snipe put up from bottom of the bank. Mallards in pairs on farm ponds. Three large deposits of frog spawn spotted on lower ponds.

16th Feb 2026
Cormorant on top pond. Snipe put up from wetland at furthermost point. First daffodil opened. First deposit of ‘astral jelly’ observed at island pond.

3rd January 2026
First decent frost. Two barn owls watching the world go by from their box.

1st January 2026
7 Widgeon up from bottom pond. Tiny Wren in hedgerow.

28th December 2025
30ish Swans overhead heading inland, rabbit, stoat on path near Orchard gate, three Mallard off the bomb hole pond, Wren.

27th December 2025
Activity noted on and around the new Little Owl box in the barn. New camera ordered to see if we can capture anything interesting. A pair of Barn Owls are active in the box at the North end of the same barn.
