Teasel Tuesday

Today was the day to begin prepping all of the dried teasels from last year in readiness for the wreath making season.

Each teasel is cleaned and shaken by hand to release any remaining seeds which are then used for sowing more plants and for bird food. Goldfinches just love teasels and descend on our crop in the late summer to help themselves, perching on the teasel seed head to feed.

As well as all our wild teasels, we have started trials of growing them in an accessible bed where it is much easier to harvest them.

The seeds recovered today will be sown to add a further teasel bed which will begin providing a crop in the autumn of 2028 and be dried ready for sale in the run up to Christmas 2029. Nothing is quick in farming!

Along with other natural wreath decorations, our home grown dried teasel seed heads can be purchased online on wreathsupplies.co.uk/shop/decorations/dried-teasels/
