4th – The hare that seems to not really mind sharing the space with the dogs was caught short on the bottom path. Rather than run, it chose to swim across the pond which was a first for me to witness. Not particularly graceful but faster than you would expect. Sorry, no photo or video which is a shame as I can’t imagine it is a common thing to see.
I’ve been lax in updating but things of note around the plot so far this month:
Daily sightings of the Buzzard, only a few sightings of the barn owls (I do hope cleaning their box hasn’t put them off), a warm day that brought a final flush of dragonflies, and a solitary Kestrel catching lunch.
We have been busy with jobs on the farm, mainly taking advantage of the mild weather to prepare for next year. A long outstanding job being restoring the paths of an 11 acre plot at Banks now that the trees are mature enough for it to be let for dog walking. It’s hard work and won’t be quick with everything else that is going on but it is very rewarding when you look back on the work done. The resident deer have been very inquisitive!

24th – Worrying news from Martin Mere – closed due to a suspected case of bird flu. The thousands of pink foot that we see daily toing and froing from the reserve to the marsh obviously oblivious to their situation. All very sad but also quite worrying.
